Indian Head Massage

Dating back in Indian tradition over 1000 years, this treatment is also known as Champissage from the Hindu word ‘champi’ meaning ‘head massage’ – this is where the word shampoo comes from. The concept was originally devised by women as part of their grooming routine, who used different oils according to the seasons to keep their hair strong and lustrous.

It was developed in the 1970’s by Narenda Mehta, a physical therapist who introduced an Ayuvedic element, focused on rebalancing the body’s entire energy flow, promoting a sense of deep peace and tranquillity.

Much of the stress we experience in our daily lives manifests itself in the upper body causing poor posture, tight, knotted muscles and headaches. Indian Head Massage is performed fully clothed on a specially designed chair and incorporates massage, shiatsu and acupressure techniques on the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face.

It can help relieve muscle tension improving joint mobility and is invaluable for stress related disorders such as tension headaches, eyestrain, mental fatigue and anxiety. It also effectively relieves sinus problems, and stimulates the flow of blood to the follicles improving the supply of nutrients needed for healthy hair growth.
