Reiki is an ancient art of healing with its roots firmly in the Orient. The Japanese translation of Reiki is ‘Universal Energy’, being known by various different names in different countries, ‘chi’ or ‘qi’ in China, ‘ki’ in Japan and ‘prana’ in India.
Eastern medicine has always recognised that a free and harmonious supply of energy throughout the human body promotes good health and well-being. Any blockage will create an imbalance, which may slowly lead to ill health. Reiki endeavours to balance the flow of energy on the physical, emotional and spiritual planes and promotes the body’s regenerative self-healing ability.
Reiki can accelerate the healing of physical problems, balance the emotions and release restrictive mental attitudes. It encourages and supports positive personal change and builds on a more resourceful state of being. Reiki’s gentle energy can enhance everyday life and regular sessions help to prevent illness and fatigue.
Reiki is a non-invasive therapy, the therapist places their hands gently, in a series of positions over the body. The client’s system automatically draws in only as much Reiki as is needed, using it in whatever way is most appropriate at that time. Reiki may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. The beneficial effects may be felt for several days.
