The Eastern Approach
According to Oriental tradition it is considered that there is a universal ‘life energy’ or ‘qi’ that permeates directly through the human body and a free and harmonious supply of ‘qi’ promotes good health and well-being. ‘Qi’ is distributed throughout the body via a network of channels called the meridians, the knowledge of these pathways being developed through modern clinical and scientific research, each being associated with a particular organ or body function. Any blockage of ‘qi’ will create an imbalance in the body, which may slowly lead to ill health.
Acupressure points are places were ‘qi’ accumulates as small pools in the flow of a particular meridian, and by applying pressure on these various points helps to release accumulated tension and stagnation, improving the flow of ‘qi’ along that particular meridian line.
In addition, manipulating these points can stimulate various body functions, in particular the muscular, circulatory and nervous systems promoting the release of endorphins and important mood-regulating hormones, leaving the recipient feeling totally relaxed, yet wide awake, alert and ready to get back to work.
